Zero-Proofing It: 4 Recipes to inspire

Our annual #AlcoholFreeFor40 challenge, hosted by our Eat Fit team with Ochsner Health, is truly a way to make going alcohol-free your own little self experiment. 

Replacement behaviors – and replacement beverages – are always key for success, so it’s perfect timing to get a little zero-proof cocktail inspiration. I had the opportunity to interview Nathan Walker of Romey Roe for my podcast, I’m excited for y’all to meet him!

He’s a fashion designer, the brains behind the Romey Roe line; his passion for fashion is rivaled only by his elevated mixology creations. You can find Nathan behind the bar at Tchoup’s Midcity Smokehouse in Lafayette, where he leads one of most creative bar programs in the region. 

In addition to being a designer and a bartender, Nathan has also embarked on quite a wellness journey, incorporating nutrition and exercise as part of his everyday lifestyle. He lives a lower-carb lifestyle and personally seeks out and creates zero-sugar cocktails alternatives.  He also has successfully completed his own #AlcoholFree challenge, which makes him quite possibly the perfect guest to talk about Eat Fit approved zero-proof cocktails. 

Here are four of Nathan’s favorite Zero-Proof Cocktail recipes: 

The always refreshing Spa Water

Spa Water 
Makes 1 serving 

Lightly muddle cucumber slices with Swoon simple syrup in a glass. Add water, lime juice and ice; shake and double strain in a Tulip glass top with Topo Chico.

Per serving: 10 calories, 0 grams fat, 0 grams saturated fat, 25 mg sodium, 3 grams carbohydrate (3 grams net carbs), 0 grams fiber, 0 grams sugar (0 added sugar), 0 grams protein

Sparkling Pink Lemonade

Sparkling Pink Lemonade
Makes 1 serving 

Lightly muddle two strawberries with Swoon simple syrup. Add water, lemon juice and ice; shake and double strain into a Mason jar top with Topo Chico. 

Per serving: 20 calories, 0 grams fat, 0 grams saturated fat, 25 mg sodium, 5 grams carbohydrate (5 grams net carbs), 0 grams fiber, 3 grams sugar (0 added sugar), 0 grams protein


Ritual Old Fashioned  

Makes 1 serving 

Slightly muddle a fresh orange slice in the bottom of a 10-ounce glass with Swoon simple syrup and both bitters. Add ice and Ritual Bourbon. Stir for 30 to 45 seconds and serve.

Per serving: 30 calories, 0 grams fat, 0 grams saturated fat, 0 mg sodium, 7 grams carbohydrate (7 grams net carbs), 0 grams fiber, 3 grams sugar (1 added sugar), 0 grams protein

Ritual Margarita
Makes 1 serving 

Add all ingredients over ice in a 10-ounce glass. Spice it up with a muddled jalapeño at the bottom of the glass!
